It was revealed Wednesday morning that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris is set to miss at least six weeks with a knee injury. This is a massive injury blow for Spurs, as the defense has returned to fine form. Fortunately, Tottenham’s backup (now starting) goalkeeper is no slouch by any means.

Fraser Forster brings experience to the Tottenham goal

Fraser Forster (34) will bring plenty of experience for these next couple of months. Not only does he have Premier League experience with Newcastle and Southampton, but he also has Champions League experience with Scottish side Celtic.

Tottenham Hotspur hopes his Champions League experience will give them an edge over AC Milan, who also have their backup goalkeeper,  Ciprian Tătăruşanu (37), set to start the first match of the tie as he started several Serie A matches for the Italian side recently. Forster looks to make his second Premier League appearance for Spurs against Leceister City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, February 11th.

What to expect from Forster?

Despite being near the twilight of his career, Fraser Forster is still a more than capable shot-stopper and can still stretch to make crucial saves with his 6’7″ frame. Forster has made several appearances this season, with one coming in the Premier League in the 2-2 draw against Brentford on Boxing Day.

Forster has also made two appearances in the F.A. Cup, keeping two clean sheets in those matches, and one in the EFL Cup match against Nottingham Forrest when Spurs were knocked out of the competition.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, now the all-time leading goal scorer at the club, is expected to be the captain while Lloris is out of the side. Kane is more than familiar with taking on this role, as he is the captain of the England national team.

Spurs will lean on Harry Kane’s leadership and Fraser Forster’s experience to get them through this critical run of fixtures in the next several weeks.
