Following the opening of the New White Hart Lane or Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a youth team game the reviews are in about the new stadium and they are wonderful.

Though the name of the stadium is up for debate and likely will be changed to whatever large licensing deal Daniel Levy is able to extract the most money from one thing is still for certain.  Tottenham’s new stadium is and will be a success.  Despite a rumored cost of over 1 billion pounds and almost 9 months of delays it appears that Levy and his team have gotten it right.  It is as good a stadium as any in Europe and will provide a fitting home for the new era that he has helped usher in during his time as Chairman.

This website and this journalist in particular have often been critical of Daniel Levy.  It helps that from a strictly critical position as a non supporter the flaws in his management have been more obvious in recent months than perhaps they were before.  That said in this moment the Chairman deserves an applause and a glass of bubbly to wash it down with (though he is supposedly a non-drinker).

Tottenham often spend a great deal of time worrying about the budget and sometimes that very responsible attitude can get in the way of winning.  That said what it has also done is provide Tottenham with the opportunity to build the best non-National team stadium in England and that is something that should be celebrated.  The club can now leap ahead of Chelsea in terms of the London wealth stakes by providing a much larger amount of match day revenue and even more or equally importantly add the important revenue from concerts, boxing and regular NFL action that Wembley used to monopolize to the coffers.

More from Tottenham History

With this new stadium surely Spurs will be on the verge of a new era of fiscal power and it shows just how important strong upper management is to a teams long term success.

If one observes the numbers with a certain degree of analytical intention then it appears to show just how good the news for Tottenham can be in terms of what the new stadium means for the club. White Hart Lane had a capacity of roughy 36,284 seats.  For comparison Arsenal’s emirates is 60,260.  Despite that grosss, almost double, difference according to Deloitte Tottenham only missed out in revenue to Arsenal by 11 million euros a season or roughly 9.4 million pounds.

It is estimated that without a home stadium and the revenue it provides Tottenham were missing out on at least 1 million pounds per match while playing at Wembley. That doesn’t even account for the revenue from merchandise and food and beverage that the club is missing out on while at Wembley.

Spurs support now you can prepare for the good news and you do deserve it.

The good news is that Tottenham including all of the factors above like concerts and NFL that Levy was shrewd enough to capture before the Stadium’s opening, are expected to earn an additional 150-200 million pounds per season. To give this perspective Manchester United earned 666 million euros (Red Devils references abound there wow) in 2019 according to the Deloitte Money League.  Tottenham’s revenue with the additional simply 150 is 578 and with the maximum expected 200 million pounds is 628.  To have succeeded in putting Tottenham in the same financial league as Manchester United would be the biggest success that the management team could have hoped for.

To be conservative though should Tottenham even make an additional 100 million pounds that would be an absurd improvement on the current financial situation.  Tottenham are in for a big change when the stadium opens.  It may be a season or two before it is fully felt but this is the sort of thing that must be respected as well as celebrated.
