You have to go all the way back to February 1990 – since the last time Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. A late Gary Lineker header, secured a 2-1 away win for Spurs.

Since that day, Tottenham have visited Stamford Bridge 25 times in all competitions, and they have yet to replicate their famous win from 1990. That season, Spurs finished 3rd in the Old Division One – under the management of Terry Venables. Chelsea, who were newly promoted from Division Two, finished their campaign in 5th.

So what has been the issue at Stamford Bridge for nearly 25 years? Chelsea haven’t always been as good as they are today, but Tottenham have never been able to get the right result at the Bridge for so long. Many managers, including the likes of Gerry Francis, George Graham, Glenn Hoddle and Harry Redknapp among others, have all tried and failed.

"Many managers, including the likes of Gerry Francis, George Graham, Glenn Hoddle and Harry Redknapp among others, have all tried and failed (to win at Chelsea)."

This season, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea look an ever harder nut to crack than they ever have done. The Blues currently sit comfortably at the top of the Barclays Premier League table, after dropping just six points all season.

As for Spurs, life under new boss Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t been all rosy. The Argentinian boss, who was appointed from Southampton in the summer, has endured a difficult and inconsistent time so far at White Hart Lane. But the signs are there that maybe Spurs are turning the corner, after two straight Premier League wins and progression in the Europa League.

Tottenham make the short trip across London to their bogey ground Stamford Bridge tomorrow. We all know how difficult a task it will be for Pochettino, but how he and the Spurs fans, would love a repeat of 1990 and to finally shake off the voodoo of Stamford Bridge.
