Tottenham Hotspur narrowly avoided relegation in the last campaign. However, Xavi Simons has taken to social media and vowed to win trophies with his club.
In response to a fan on Snapchat asking, "You gonna be in your prime next year?" Simons said, "With hard work everything will come, the goal is winning trophies with my club for sure and we will achieve that one day."
There were big expectations on Simons when he arrived at Tottenham last year. His CV boasted that the 23-year-old had already played for Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and PSV Eindhoven. However, he scored just five goals with six assists in 41 games for Spurs last season.
His campaign was also cut short by a cruciate ligament tear, which meant that the Dutchman was ruled out of the World Cup. He is not expected to be back in action until February of next year.
Simons being out of action will be a huge miss for Tottenham. Despite his overall record not being great last season, there were highlights. He scored a brace against Atletico Madrid, got an assist against Manchester City, and had two goal involvements in a match with Brighton.
Will Tottenham win trophies next year?
The supporter asked about next year, but in fairness to Simons' response, he did say "one day." This does not necessarily mean the upcoming campaign. Spurs' only hopes of winning silverware next season will be in the EFL Cup or FA Cup. They have just avoided relegation, so there is no chance of them competing for the title.
Spurs had a 17-year trophy drought, which was ended when Ange Postecoglou won them the Europa League in 2025. Before this, their last trophy was the League Cup back in 2008.
Tottenham had come close to winning trophies during their drought. Mauricio Pochettino took them to the Champions League final in 2019. However, they lost to Liverpool. They also got to two EFL Cup finals in 2015 and 2021. The latter was extraordinary as they sacked Jose Mourinho just before the final. They ended up losing to Manchester City with Ryan Mason in charge on an interim basis.
Simons has already won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France with PSG. With PSV, he lifted the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield. Whilst with Leipzig, he won the DFL-Supercup. The young Dutchman will have ambitions of winning more in his career.
