There is no question that when you look at all the players in the current Tottenham Hotspur squad, Xavi Simons is on another level when you combine his athleticism, dribbling skills, technical ability, passing quality, touch, vision, quickness, and tactical intelligence. There is a reason why Spurs signed him for 60 million euros, and as much as some people have positioned him as a second choice transfer target to Eberechi Eze (or even a third to Morgan Gibbs-White), Simons has more talent and future value than those guys.

It's just that Simons has often be underutilized or misused by the managers at Tottenham, particularly Thomas Frank. But it is telling that almost all of Spurs wins in the Premier League and Champions League have come with Simons in the XI, while they are almost sure to go down with a whimper without him.

Even though Simons puzzlingly did not start against Sunderland in new manager Roberto De Zerbi's first game in charge, the Italian manager has always been full of effusive praise for his Dutch star. And in his second game in charge of the club, it was Simons who served as his muse, scoring and assisting in a spellbinding all around performance to announce himself as being back on track under the new coach.

Roberto De Zerbi and Xavi Simons are becoming closer

According to Tom Barclay of The Sun on the Tottenham Way podcast, he has heard from those in the camp of Xavi Simons that the player is building a very good relationship with De Zerbi. Barclay believes that Simons is a big fan of the new manager, and he even believes that he is becoming much more important under De Zerbi than he was under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

While that doesn't seem to be earth shattering news based on what Tottenham Hotspur supporters saw against Brighton and then heard from Roberto De Zerbi afterwards, it is still another great, positive signal for them to see the relationship between Xavi Simons and RDZ blossoming.

Simons is 100 percent the best player on Tottenham right now, especially with Cristian Romero, Mohammed Kudus, and Dejan Kulusevski out for the season and James Maddison, the other star No. 10, only just returning from an injury of his own.

There is magic in Simons's boots, and you can tell the player knows De Zerbi is the one to fully unlock it with his superior tactics and the recognition of the quality in the Barcelona and PSG academy man. Simons is special, and Tottenham fans will finally get to see that over an extended period.
