With just under one hour until kick-off in the Europa League final, Tottenham have already revealed their lineup to the world. However, at least in the starting lineup, one key name is missing.
Son Heung-min is not involved in the starting lineup, leaving many fans to ponder why he wasn't selected. Rest assured, the South Korea international is on the bench, so he's expected to play even a portion of this fixture.
So, why isn't Son starting for Spurs?
Why is Son Heung-min not in Tottenham's Europa League final lineup?
Son Heung-min was recently declared "physically ready" to play against Man United by BBC Sport, however, Ange Postecoglou has always remained insistent that he won't play his important players unless they're 100% ready.
So, while it's good that Son is at least involved in the squad, it was probably the right call not to start him from the offset.
The simple reason why Ange Postecoglou opted not to start Son Heung-min was for match fitness reasons. He is fit enough to make the squad, but not quite sharp enough to make the lineup.
Of course, Ange Postecoglou has at the back of his mind that he'll be able to call upon Sonny against tired legs, which could prove pivotal in the closing stages of this game.
Son is nearing the end of his career, hence why this match is important for him. However, it's also important that he's 100% ready to play in a game like this, hence his reduced minutes. Either he started but finished early, or didn't start but had a say towards the end of the game.
It might just work out in Spurs' favor that they can call upon the rapid Sonny towards the end of this match, depending on the momentum of the game.
Son Heung-min has been the poster boy for this game. Having stayed loyal to Spurs for many years, fans worldwide see this game as an opportunity for his teammates to reward his loyalty with European silverware. Of course, he'll want to have a say on this himself.
