Tottenham Hotpur as set to sign Savinho from Manchester City. However, it is likely that Spurs would have missed the deadline to register him in time to play against Brentford tomorrow.
Roberto De Zerbi's side would have had to register him by midday UK time today. However, there has so far been no announcement that this has been done. The last big update was from Fabrizio Romano just after 3 pm (BST), saying, "Savinho, in London after £75m plus £5m easy add-ons and £5m difficult add-ons deal done."
It would have been unlikely that Savinho would have played against Brentford tomorrow, even if he had been registered in time. De Zerbi would have already got his game plan sorted ahead of the game.
Savinho has not played a competitive game since the final game of the last Premier League season. He was not part of Brazil's squad for the World Cup and was left out of City's squad for the Community Shield.
The Brazilian may not be match fit despite featuring for City in pre-season. Savinho also lacked game time under Pep Guardiola last season, as Jeremy Doku was the preferred option on the left wing.
Savinho should get much more game time at Spurs. Mathys Tel underperformed last season, Wilson Odobert is injured, and their other left-winger, Mikey Moore, has just returned from a loan spell at Rangers. The Brazilian can also play on the right and as an attacking midfielder, which makes him a versatile option for De Zerbi.
When will Savinho make his Tottenham debut?
AC Milan and Newcastle United were also interested in Savinho. However, Spurs' long-term pursuit of the player has paid off. They are also being heavily linked with his City teammate, Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian is currently second fiddle to Erling Haaland as a striker at the club.
Savinho only joined City in 2024, but he would have already been on the club's radar for some time. The Brazilian came through the ranks at Atlético Mineiro, but was then signed to Troyes, who are part of the City Football Group. However, he never played for the French side. He was loaned to PSV Eindhoven before joining another CFG club, Girona, on loan. He then joined City permanently after impressing for the Ligue 1 side.
There is a chance that Savinho could play against Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. However, he would only have had a couple of days of training with Spurs if the deal gets done this weekend. A substitute appearance against the Addicks could be more likely.
Savinho will probably make his Spurs debut the following weekend when Spurs are at home to Newcastle. Playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League would be a good first game for the Brazilian.
He should have had a full week of training with Spurs ahead of the game against the Magpies. Also, the deal for Marmoush may have already been sorted by then.
Spurs are fortunate to be in the Premier League after pipping West Ham United to safety from relegation on the final day of last season. De Zerbi has vowed that Tottenham should not be in that position again. However, they have finished 17th in the last two campaigns.
Tottenham have made some big-money moves already this summer. They signed Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion. With the addition of Savinho and potentially Marmoush as well, De Zerbi is building an impressive squad.
Savinho is only 22, so, surprisingly, City are giving up on him so soon. However, the Manchester club's loss could be Spurs' gain.
