Tottenham first-team star has sent a strong message to the Spurs fans regarding the team's defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion in the latest match.

Tottenham's vice-captain, James Maddison, has taken to social media to address the disappointing performance following the team's unexpected defeat against Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

After a strong first half, in which Spurs established a commanding 2-0 lead, the second half saw a complete collapse, with the players failing to deliver on the pitch.

The match quickly turned on its head as Brighton, displaying relentless energy, seized control of the game. Tottenham's backline became increasingly shaky, leading to three goals being conceded in quick succession.

This performance was a real eye-opener for the North London team, especially after they’d been riding high with five straight wins in all competitions before this match.

In response to the fallout from the match, Maddison expressed his feelings candidly on his Instagram stories. He described the second-half performance as "unacceptable," acknowledging the disappointment that fans must be feeling after such a lacklustre display:

"Yesterday’s second half was unacceptable. We take full responsibility and criticism and will use it as fuel to move forward."

It's great to see a player like Maddison openly take responsibility for the team's shortcomings, especially with manager Ange Postecoglou promoting a culture of honesty and transparency since he joined the club.

Maddison's acknowledgment that the team needs to learn from this setback is vital as they aim to keep pushing for success this season.

The path to reaching their goals will definitely have its bumps, but it’s important for Tottenham to reflect on and learn from these experiences.

Looking ahead, Tottenham will host West Ham United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 19 October for Matchday 8 of the Premier League.
