Tottenham Hotspur are busy trying to sell star center back Cristian Romero, who soured the fans after a terrible season as the captain and is now superfluous to the team following the signings of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, who both had significantly better seasons than the Argentinian World Cup hero.
Inter Milan have lost out on the Romero signing to Atletico Madrid, who were long the player's preferred destination, as they were too cheap to close the deal. And once again, Inter are about to make that same mistake with Djed Spence.
Tottenham are far less interested in selling Spence, but with the player looking to join a Champions League club and fight for starting minutes at a place where he doesn't have to compete with the World Cup's best right back, Pedro Porro, Spurs are listening to offers.
Djed Spence is too valuable to Tottenham
Inter Milan have been the most interested in Spence, but, as with Romero, are at serious risk of losing out on him to a club with more resources like Premier League Big Six duo Liverpool and Manchester United, who have recently emerged with interest in the England national team's unsung World Cup hero.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan are still interested in right wing back Djed Spence after losing Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid at the beginning of the summer transfer window, but the problem is that Inter think a deal for Spence is too expensive. Basically, if Tottenham Hotspur are willing to sell Spence at a lower price before August comes to an end, the Nerazzurri will be back in. Otherwise, they are sitting idly by.
That isn't going to cut it if Inter want Spence, and since Tottenham have no reason to sell Spence, they aren't going to entertain the Big Six offers from Liverpool or Man United - or offers from anyone else in the Premier League, such as Everton, for that matter.
Tottenham are said to be asking for 40 million euros, which is around what the older, less versatile, and less team friendly Cristian Romero will cost on the transfer market. And much more importantly, Spurs have more reasons to keep Spence than Romero, which means his transfer value to them should be higher than that.
So if Inter aren't going to pay the piper, Tottenham's decision is obvious. Keep Spence. Don't sell him for pennies on the dollar to the Serie A champions and definitely don't give him an opportunity to hurt them within the Premier League either.
