Even though Tottenham Hotspur supporters thought the big dramatic storyline to end the transfer deadline day this year would be the pursuit of a third blockbuster attacking signing like Cody Gakpo - or even Iliman Ndiaye - but the player who ended up grabbing the most headlines was veteran striker Richarlison, which tells you all you need to know about the note the summer transfer window ended on.
Tottenham had an incredible summer, but it was blighted by Richy blockading a deal back to Everton, even though he had been pining for the Toffees and had already rejected overtures from Saudi Arabia and Turkey in the past. But after the window closed, it was Trabzonspor, who had just signed Richy's old Liverpool rival Mohamed Salah to be their new stop star, who had the most interested in landing him. And still, that deal fell apart.
So as the 2026/27 Premier League continues, Tottenham Hotspur still have Richarlison on the books, and he is the third string striker behind new addition Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke, whom Roberto De Zerbi believes in more. And after the media war of words between Richarlison and De Zerbi and all the drama of Richy not leaving when Spurs asked him to - and when he apparently did, too - there is seemingly no way back for the aging striker.
Richarlison's best option is still Saudi
According to a home source in Bruno Andrade of ESPN Brasil, via Planeta do Futebol, Richarlison has no intention of going back to play in Brazil. He wants to still wait for more offers before deciding to move, rather than leave before the international marketes close, and it appears his main landing spot that he is eyeing is the Saudi Pro League - the very same league he rejected last year and before that, too. But their window just closed on Sunday.
Tottenham, at this point, just want to sell Richarlison anywhere if possible, but unless a team in Saudi or Turkey wants to pay to sign him immediately in January to help them down the stretch of the 2026/27 season, it appears Richarlison is going for free.
Brazil's transfer window is still open for a couple of days, and while that would have been a final desperation move for Tottenham Hotspur to sell the former Evertonian there, not even Vasco da Gama appeal to him despite their fans' wishes. Richy is doomed to stay with Spurs, and only a desperate Saudi club can likely give them pittance lest he leave for free in the winter.
