Roberto De Zerbi wants to win now, and Tottenham are at risk of sacrificing their long-term future for the sake of the Italian's project.
De Zerbi has understandably garnered a lot of power in N17. Amid our desperation, we offered the the former Marseille a five-year contract in March despite history suggesting that the combustible Italian doesn't tend to stick around for too long in one place.
We can only hope that things are different this time around, because the early signs are hugely promising, there's no denying that. The pursestrings have been loosened, and it looks like De Zerbi will have a group of players at his disposal that are capable of competing towards the top of the Premier League again after back-to-back 17th-place finishes.
However, murmurs are coming out of the club regarding De Zerbi's distrust of our brightest young stars. How reliable such reports are remains to be seen, but we've already parted ways with Luka Vušković and are open to offers for Lucas Bergvall.
At the academy level, starlets are concerned about first team pathways and Spurs risk losing one of their most exciting teenage talents as a result.
Tynan Thompson edging towards Manchester United transfer
18-year-old Tynan Thompson is yet to make his senior debut, but he surely would've had the chance to impress last season hadn't he been injured. Thompson has caught the eye at youth level, shining in the UEFA Youth League alongside playmaker Luca Williams-Barnett.
Thompson had been regarded by many supporters, especially those who keep a close eye on the academy, as one who had a genuine shot of enjoying a first-team breakthrough.
However, the teenager's situation has seemingly changed, with reports suggesting that Thompson could be on his way out of the club. According to The Secret Scout, Manchester United are making a move for the 18-year-old and are prepared to quickly wrap up a deal before serious interest arrives from elsewhere. Bundesliga side Hamburg have also been linked.
Another insider, @szyexcl (via Hotspur Lane), adds that Thompson was at United's training ground on Friday, likely to undergo a medical and thus complete a transfer.
Supposedly, Thompson doesn't believe there's a clear path towards first-team opportunities. Perhaps De Zerbi's short-termism has spooked some of the youngsters, despite our current lack of quality in forward areas.
While I'm not suggesting that Thompson will develop into a world beater up in Manchester, we don't want this to become a trend. Eventually, Spurs will lose someone that prospers elsewhere.
Fabio Paratici did a tremendous job in helping to reboot the academy, but now there has to be alignment between our youth and senior setups. At the moment, there's disconnect.
