Tottenham are now being linked with a move for a striker as they look to refresh their squad this summer. Having narrowly kept Spurs up, Roberto De Zerbi is now likely to get the resources to overhaul this squad, which has failed domestically in back-to-back seasons.

Big changes are needed in this squad, and De Zerbi is acutely aware. Spurs are already making headway as they look to make an early statement in the window, with reports Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson and AFC Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi set to arrive on free transfers.

Those are both big steals for Tottenham if they can dot the Is and cross the Ts. And according to a fresh report, there is a striker who is catching the eye of De Zerbi.

Gimenez in line for a move

According to the Daily Mirror, AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez has been highlighted as a target. Gimenez has struggled with Milan, only scoring five times in 30 league appearances, leading to talk of a move this summer.

Gimenez scored 45 goals in 73 league games for Feyenoord to earn the move to Milan, and he built a reputation of being one of the most dangerous strikers in the Netherlands.

The Mexico international struggled with injury this season, which certainly didn't help his form, but whether there is more context to his poor form or not, Milan have made major changes this summer.

Milan cleaned house after missing out on the Champions League, sacking their head coach and three directors, splashing out around 22million euros to make the changes.

Changes are set to continue within the squad when a new boss is appointed, and Gimenez could be one of the players who is expended. Spurs could take advantage of that by landing the striker on a well-priced deal.

The 25-year-old made the move to Milan for around 30million euros, and it's likely he would be sold for around that price or just below this summer. Spurs will believe that is a good price for a goalscoring striker, although they would be relying on Gimenez getting back to his scoring form.

Gimenez would be an intriguing gamble

There is no doubting that Tottenham need a new striker. Richarlison's future is unclear, while Dominic Solanke simply hasn't proven he can stay fit and consistent.

Randal Kolo Muani will be heading back to PSG after a disappointing spell, and so Tottenham's need to sign a striker - or maybe two - is obvious.

Gimenez is a gamble in that he has gone a year without showing the sort of form he did at Feyenoord. Spurs would likely save money on the investment compared to one of the more pricey and proven strikers, but it would come at the price of signing a striker who is likely to be low on confidence.

But Gimenez does have that goalscoring form in his past, and if De Zerbi believes he can get that out of him, it could be a stroke of genius, especially when you consider Spurs paid around £65million for Solanke, who has largely struggled in front of goal.

Spurs clearly need to operate smarter and find more value for money, and that is going to involve taking calculated risks in the market.
