After surviving the nadirest of nadirs, Thomas Frank has fought to see another weekend, according to reports.

There was growing talk of a potential parting of ways after Tottenham were beaten 2-1 at home by a woeful West Ham United side on Saturday, with Callum Wilson crashing home a stoppage-time winner for the visitors.

That result left Spurs winless in five and 14th in the Premier League table. The Hammers not only edged the scoreline, but they also dominated the contest in terms of chances created. For Frank, it felt like the end of a torrid reign. Reports emerged in the immediate aftermath of planned board meetings amid player discontent, but instead of receiving a corner flag on our social media timelines, we learned on Monday that Frank would get Dortmund.

And now, suddenly, the picture is rosy again! A 2-0 win on Tuesday night allowed the forgotten feeling of joy to resurface, with Frank's Spurs completely overwhelming their German visitors, who were reduced to ten men midway through the first half.

If the board weren't going to sack him after West Ham, it seemed unlikely for Frank's departure to be confirmed after perhaps the most impressive performance of his reign so far.

Despite the recent sorrow and availability crisis that greeted the manager in midweek, Dortmund proved to be ideal opposition for Frank's Spurs.

Their ubiquitous underlying vulnerability was seized upon by the hosts, who quickly got the home crowd onside with an energetic opening. The space they surrendered allowed Spurs' playmakers to thrive, and the entirety of the first half was played in the Dortmund half.

The hosts were more than good value for their 2-0 half-time lead before opting against running up the score after the restart, as Niko Kovać finally adjusted. The Lilywhites are now 24 games unbeaten at home in Europe, and up to fourth in the league phase table before Wednesday's action gets underway.

It's evident that this Tottenham board still believes that Frank can turn things around, with CEO Vinai Venkatesham among the Dane's staunchest backers. The West Ham defeat may have thrust a state of cognitive dissonance upon Frank's believers up top, who'll now be feeling a sense of brief vindication after Tuesday's performance/result.

The club have confirmed that Frank will take the pre-Burnley media duties on Thursday and lead his team up to Turf Moor on Saturday. Scott Parker's Clarets earned a point at Anfield last weekend but haven't won a Premier League game since October.

Thus, there's scope for things to go horribly wrong. The failure to secure three points will once again lead to calls for his head, and ensure Tuesday's improvement was no more than a false dawn.

Remarkably, though, he's lived to see another weekend in N17.
