A top 8 finish is still possible after much-needed win.

An excellent first half saw Spurs well on top even before the early Dortmund red card. There was a pace and tenacity that had been missing often this season. The second half saw us play slower and see the game out but still create good chances.

GK Guglielmo Vicario

Very little to do for Vicario but when called upon, he looked comfortable. The few half chances that Dortmund had were easily dealt with and any through balls saw him in good starting positions to ensure the clean sheet.   Rating: 7

RB Pedro Porro

An excellent first half, moving forward at pace and putting in crosses. So far forward he seemed to be playing right-wing, which was a good example of our dominance. Second half saw a similar determination and energy but without the final ball coming off for him. Also looked less sure defensively as under a bit more pressure. A poor touch meant a great chance to make it 3-0 was missed, but overall a good game from Porro.  Rating: 8

LW Destiny Udogie

Another who was outstanding in the first half and a lot quieter in the second. Udogie brings good energy and attacking play at left back. A couple of poor clearances in the second half thankfully came to nothing. Yet another player who has had some injury issues, so good to see him play 90 minutes again.   Rating: 7

CB Cristian Romero

Another goal from Romero, which he took well.  Not troubled at the back and was charging forward in the second half. Seemed determined for 3 points tonight and lead by example. Solid performance.   Rating: 8

CB Kevin Danso

With Micky van de Ven suspended, Danso came in and was very reliable again in helping to keep a clean sheet. Showed his aerial strength in the second half as Dortmund put in a few more crosses and rarely looked in any danger. Has been a very good signing.  Rating: 7

CM Archie Gray

A tidy performance from Gray, improving on recent weeks. Benefited from getting more time on the ball from our opponents but he read the game well, breaking up the few Dortmund attacks while also moving the ball forward quickly. Has been in so many different roles in the last few weeks, and since he joined the club, seemed to adapt better to this more defensive role here.   Rating: 7

CM Lucas Bergvall

A busy performance from the opening kickoff, Bergvall showed his usual quick feet and an ability to move past players which enabled us both to win the ball back and attack with far more pace than we have shown in recent weeks. Has been unlucky with injuries this season as he needs a longer run in the team. Went off late again here. Rating: 7

RW Wilson Odobert

First half was perhaps the best we have seen from Odobert in a Spurs shirt, and he provided assists for both our goals. Odobert’s best performances have come in bursts as a substitute this season, so it was great to see him attacking early, linking up well with Porro and providing end product.   Rating: 8

LW Djed Spence

Not where we usually see Spence at all and he has now moved from right back to consistently playing left back to now playing left wing. Usually stronger defending than attacking, today saw Spence stick to his role well. Provided an outlet for attacks, held the ball up and brought others into play. Not a role I think we will see Spence in too often but played well today and continues to show versatility.   Rating: 7

AM Xavi Simons

Much better from Xavi than we have seen in recent weeks. Xavi has had good games for us this season, they have just not been consistent enough but today he stood out. Right from the start, he was quick to move forward and winning tackles. We rely far too much on crosses and don’t attack anywhere near enough through the middle under Thomas Frank, but Simons was the welcome exception to that in this game. An excellent through ball to set up Randal Kolo Muani in the second half is an example of what we have missed this season. Some wayward finishing from Xavi but he was inventive and looking to create all game. Great performance.    Rating: 8

CF Dominic Solanke

Back with a goal after a long time out injured, Solanke looked more involved than vs West Ham at the weekend and lead the line well before being substituted. Not the finish he would have expected for the goal but was in position to get there, and the cliché of “they all count” applies here. There’s more to come from Solanke as he plays more games back, but the difference he made today was notable.  Rating: 6

Substitutes: Jun’ai Byfield, Randal Kolo Muani

Tottenham debut for Byfield and, at just 17 years old, he settled in immediately and did not look phased by the occasion. Giving minutes to our young players is something we need to see more of from Tottenham. Muani ‘s link-up play was fine, and he got into some good positions, but the end product was missing again. Too quick to look for a penalty a couple of times when attacking and missed a great chance to make it 3-0 when one-on-one with the opposition keeper. Ratings: Byfield (6), Muani (5)
