Tottenham have made a totally different striker profile their transfer priority

But should they do it?

Tottenham Hotspur 100 percent have to respond in the January transfer window with upgrades to the starting lineup, and they may need multiple new starters to help ensure that they don't miss out on Champions League football.

Sure, it won't matter who is playing for Tottenham if Thomas Frank keeps selecting the wrong lineups out of the available players and continually chooses a cowardly tactical setup, but it's also obvious that Spurs don't have as good players as the true, nailed on Champions League sides in the Premier League like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Tottenham have their biggest need on the left wing, but it looks like Spurs are also targeting new blood at the striker position with Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke slowed by injuries while Richarlison has turned in another atrocious season.

Tottenham have a top priority at striker

According to a new report from Sky Sports Switzerland reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Tottenham have made FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa their new transfer focus and view him as an ideal option at the No. 9 position. Tavolieri reports that Spurs will soon launch a bid to the Portuguese club for the 21-year-old striker.

Aghehowa was a star for lowly Deportivo Alaves in La Liga before Atletico Madrid, his parent club, shipped him off to Porto. At Porto, Samu has been decent but nothing special. This season, the young, high upside striker has scored six goals in nine starts, but he is averaging just 0.3 key passes per game and 0.8 dribbles completed per match.

Samu as the priority transfer target for Tottenham is totally out of left field, because he is the opposite profile of Richarlison, Solanke, and Kolo Muani. Now, it's not a bad thing for Spurs to go in a different direction from a well rounded, veteran striker, and Samu is an electrifying athlete with high potential who has the physical profile to fit the Premier League.

The problem is that he's so unproven, and while he has a decent eye for goal, he's not nearly productive enough for a club the size of Porto in a league as light as the Primeira Liga is in terms of competition. Samu should be dominating if he wants to step up and be a high priced Premier League transfer to a club like Tottenham that should be signing players who can push them towards title contention. Samu isn't quite at that level to be a true priority striker target for Spurs.
