Tottenham Hotspur have not won a single game in the 2026/27 Premier League season, and they have not even beaten a single Premier League caliber opponent when factoring in their elimination to Liverpool in the Third Round of the League Cup.
So Spurs fans cannot wait for their key players to both improve and get back to full fitness. In addition to main No. 10 James Maddison, Tottenham fans are eager to finally see right winger and attacking midfield hybrid Dejan Kulusevski back on the pitch.
Kulusevski has been out since the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season with a devastating knee injury that was initially termed as a knock but then turned out to be career threatening. He was only able to train on grass with the ball a year after the injury, but he has been making good progress the last couple of months.
Dejan Kulusevski feels close
Rumor has it that Kulu could return to Tottenham Hotspur as soon as the end of the September international break and into October with key fixtures against Manchester United and Chelsea. With Spurs wisely taking things slowly with their veteran forward, a return towards the end of 2026 is more likely, but Kulu really is right on the horizon.
And in the best injury news update on Dejan Kulusevski yet, his Swedish national team and Tottenham teammate Lucas Bergvall confirmed that Kulu is "absolutely" close to returning and joined the others in offering plenty of kind words for the former Juventus, Parma, and Atalanta star.
Bergvall told the Swedish media, via Hotspur Lane, “He is incredibly hungry and has done incredibly well. He is a real machine. We are all looking forward to having him back. I absolutely think so. Then it's difficult for me to judge how he feels and how the club sees it. But it's clear that he's doing incredibly well in training and is making strides every day.”
Kulusevski was one of the best attacking players in the Premier League before his injury. His ball progression, intelligence, creativity, and technical quality will be vital in any role for a Tottenham team desperate for both more goals and assists, as well as more character and fight.
Roberto De Zerbi and Spurs will need to continue to be cautious with the player, but you can see just how much De Zerbi and his teammates like Lucas Bergvall are buzzing about the chance to get to work with him again. Bergvall's positive update about him doing "incredibly well in training" is absolutely beautiful to hear.
