Martin Dubravka is set to join Tottenham Hotspur from Burnley. Spurs fans appear to agree that Dubravka should have the role of backup to Antonin Kinsky.

One Tottenham supporter wrote on Reddit, "Dubravka is more than a safe pair of hands, he’s a really solid addition to the squad." Whilst another added, "Dubravka is exactly the right kind of backup we need."

Dubravka is now 37 and has just come off a difficult season at Burnley. He conceded 71 goals in 35 Premier League games, keeping just four clean sheets. The Clarets were relegated, and he would not want his career to end on such a sour note. Whilst Tottenham had relegation fears last season, they are expected to climb up the table with Roberto De Zerbi at the helm.

The incoming goalkeeper spent the majority of his career with Newcastle United. He played for the Magpies 179 times and won the EFL Cup with them. He played in the third round, quarter-final, and both semi-final legs against Arsenal. However, when it came to the final against Liverpool, Eddie Howe chose to field Nick Pope instead.

Dubravka had a similar role as a backup keeper when he was on loan at Manchester United from Newcastle. During the 2022/23 campaign, the Slovenian was the number two behind David De Gea. United also won the EFL Cup that year. Dubravka played in the third and fourth rounds. However, he was then recalled by Newcastle. The Red Devils then went on to beat the Magpies in the final of the competition.

Martin Dubravka is expected to be the backup to AntonĂn KinskĂ½

The transfer of Dubravka was revealed by Fabrizio Romano. In his post, he wrote, "Move completed today with Dubravka set to be backup GK at Spurs behind Kinski [sic]. Guglielmo Vicario to leave this summer."

It has to be said that it is a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Kinsky. He was subbed off by Igor Tudor after an error-strewn 17-minutes in a Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. However, De Zerbi reintegrated him into his lineup. Kinsky repaid this faith by making some crucial saves to help keep the club in the Premier League.

Vicario needs to leave Tottenham to ensure regular game time. He has been linked with Juventus and Napoli recently. The Italian has experience in Serie A with the likes of Empoli and Cagliari. Therefore, a return to his home country makes sense.
