Tottenham Hotspur are getting close to agreeing a loan deal with FC Koln that will send young star winger MIkey Moore to the friendly Bundelsiga club for a year after his solid 2025/26 season performance with Rangers.
While there is a small possibility of Moore staying with Spurs for the 2026/27 season, he still does not look ready for the big time. Moore was good for Rangers and showed up in the biggest games against Celtic, but he still needs to be more consistent at creating chances and affecting the game. And he has not been the biggest standout in the preseason for Spurs, so Roberto De Zerbi is not convinced.
Tottenham need Moore to spread his wings against higher competition, and the Bundesliga can provide that. And who knows? Maybe he can blow up and become a Bundesliga Player of the Season sleeper like Luka Vuskovic did for Hamburg last season.
Is Said El Mala in the cards for Tottenham?
As Tottenham close in on sending Mikey Moore to Koln, many fans are wondering if the current top left winger from the German club could be coming back to them, too. Because Said El Mala is available for transfer this summer, and while fan friendship club Borussia Dortmund are going the hardest after him and love the player as a perfect fit to replace Karim Adeyemi (and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens the year before to Chelsea), they still have not agreed to terms on the transfer fee with Koln and appear to be cheaping out on a top young player again.
Tottenham Hotspur could potentially leverage Moore's loan to getting El Mala back the other way, and while Tottenham do need an established goal scoring left winger since they already have Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, and Moore as young prospects, some Spurs fans have fallen in love with El Mala and wonder if the club may have done the same.
El Mala looks special, and even Bayern Munich have been thinking of him, too. The 19 year old scored 13 goals with 4 assists in fewer than 2,000 Bundesliga minutes last season, and he was an absolute machine at creating shooting opportunities for himself. Said El Mala is unstoppable when he cuts inside and attacks on the counter, and his physical tools and directness are simply on another level to most young winger prospects.
Perhaps Tottenham could see El Mala being more advanced, especially in terms of goals, than Moore after scoring 13 in the Bundesliga - more than any player in the league for Tottenham last season. They could try to see if Koln can get Moore to be as good as El Mala in 2026/27, sign El Mala, and have him and Mathys Tel compete for minutes alongside an Omar Marmoush or Savinho. It's a bit far fetched, but Tottenham fans are wondering due to the Moore rumors.
