A pundit has revealed that Tottenham are desperately looking to sign a player to compete for a starting defence spot.

John Wenham, from the Lilywhite Rose podcast, believes that Tottenham are in "desperate need" of signing a left-back who can provide real competition for Destiny Udogie.

The lack of competition in that position may be one of the reasons why Udogie has not been performing at his best this season. Currently, Udogie faces little challenge for his spot, which could be impacting his form.

The only other left-back in the first team is Ben Davies, but his future at Tottenham seems increasingly uncertain, with suggestions that he could be leaving the club.

Meanwhile, Sergio Reguilon, who has played in that role in previous seasons, has been frozen out of the team this year and has not been included in matchday squads.

Given the lack of real competition for Udogie and the fact that the available options do not offer a long-term solution, it is believed that signing a new left-back is essential to ensure that Udogie is properly challenged, which in turn could improve the overall performance in that position.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham, alongside Aston Villa and Newcastle United, are interested in Kevin Zenon, a left-back from Boca Juniors.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham shared his thoughts: “If Zenon has been recommended, and he can play at left-back, then that transfer makes sense."

"We are in desperate need of somebody who can challenge Udogie," he concluded.

Could the solution lie in Boca Juniors?

As the CaughtOffside report suggests, Zenon could be a useful addition for Tottenham on the left flank, providing a more reliable alternative to Destiny Udogie at left-back.

Kevin Zenon is a 23-year-old Argentine footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Boca Juniors, where he is considered a key and irreplaceable player in the team.

He is currently recovering from a left leg injury. When the incident occurred, the worst-case scenario was feared, but fortunately, it wasn’t as severe as initially thought. Medical tests revealed that it was a moderate sprain, which required him to take 15 days to return to training.

Kevin has now caught the eye of scouts from the Premier League. During the first half of the season, Newcastle United began closely monitoring him, and now both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have also added him to their radar.
