Savinho is still a Manchester City player. Despite the Brazilian's impressive desperation to be part of Roberto De Zerbi's project in north London, Tottenham are yet to reach an agreement with the Cityzens.
Spurs have pursued the young winger for a year, with their interest last year eventually rebuffed. Savinho subsequently embarked on a tame Premier League campaign, yet his value has curiously increased this summer.
He's waiting patiently, as has an entire fanbase. The buzz and excitement that should surround a new arrival have long worn off, with apathy creeping in. We're craving a resolution, whether or not it requires us to move to an alternative target.
Spurs are yet to make a single attacking addition this summer, although recent reports suggest two are imminent. Savinho's absence from City training ahead of the Community Shield raised speculation, but if the Cityzens are waiting to sign a replacement before facilitating the Brazilian's exit, then Spurs may have to wait a little while longer to get their man.
Potential Savinho replacement might be off the table for Man City
Spurs have not been able to reach a compromise with City over a transfer fee. The goalposts are seemingly being shifted constantly, and Brazilian journalist Cahê Mota has even suggested that the deal could be worth £85m.
Silly money, I know. Others, like The Independent's Miguel Delaney (via The Spurs Web), believe an agreement could be worth £65m plus add-ons.
Spurs will ultimately be overpaying based on Savinho's Premier League output. They're banking on potential and what the winger could evolve into, but there's certainly raw talent for De Zerbi to maximise.
An alternative we've been linked to is Chelsea's Pedro Neto, who has also been discussed as a potential Savinho replacement up in Manchester. Neto, of course, has ties to Pep Guardiola's successor, Enzo Maresca.
However, Sacha Tavolieri reports that Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal have reached an agreement with Neto over a transfer. A deal hasn't been reached with Chelsea, who are open to letting the Portuguese international move on this summer for the right price.
Looking at their depth chart, City would surely need to sign a Savinho replacement, unless teenager Jeremy Monga steps up after his £10m arrival in July. If that's Neto, their pursuit may be compromised by Saudi wealth.
For Spurs, the Neto update is another potential roadblock in a saga that's sucked any enthusiasm out of Savinho donning Lilywhite.
