Throughout the summer 2026 transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have been closely linked to Savinho, whom they tried to sign last summer with no success. There was optimism that Manchester City would be more open to selling the Brazilian this year after not using him much last season even before signing Antoine Semenyo, but the new guard at Man City hasn't been easier to negotiate with. Judging by Rodri's situation with Real Madrid, too, they've probably been even worse.
So as Manchester City drag the Savinho saga out unnecessarily long despite the player clearly pushing for a move, including liking and following posts of so many Tottenham players on Instagram, Tottenham have been increasingly linked to Cody Gakpo. And De Zerbi seems to REALLY want the Liverpool man, though there are rumblings that they want him more as a center forward or second striker. That makes sense, seeing as how Gakpo is coming off his worst season, struggling in a wider left wing role with Luis Diaz gone and Mohamed Salah declining.
Here are three alternatives on the left wing for Tottenham to consider in the final month of the summer transfer window.
Omar Marmoush, Manchester City
Omar Marmoush has been linked to Tottenham Hotspur even back in the winter transfer window, though neither Marmoush nor Man City were interested in parting ways, and he is apparently one of the favorite options of Roberto De Zerbi, perhaps flying under the radar in the media because Spurs are secretly hoping for him.
Realistically, Tottenham can only sign one standout winger from the Etihad, and between the two players, Man City seem even less reluctant to sell Marmoush, because he is more physical for the Premier League and can score goals cutting inside or even playing as a second striker. But that's precisely what would him more attractive to Tottenham; they need goals.
Antonio Nusa, RB Leipzig
Antonio Nusa will be harder to sign now that Real Madrid are on the verge of signing Leipzig's biggest gem, Yan Diomande, for 140 million euros, and the Bundesliga side are already slow to release the Ivorian international despite a verbal agreement because they are still waiting to sign a replacement.
While Nusa is not as explosive as Diomande, he is so good at cutting inside and scoring, creating his own shot, and whenever he plays for Leipzig or Norway, you never know what he is going to come up with. Nusa has game changing ability and can score a hat trick on a moment's notice, and if he gets more time to develop, the 21 year old has insane upside and could even threaten 20 goals in a season.
Armand Lauriente, Sassuolo
Roberto De Zerbi didn't actually get to coach Armand Lauriente at Sassuolo, as he moved from the Italian club just before the Frenchman's arrival. But Lauriente is one of the most talented wingers in Serie A, breaking out as a top class player in the 2022/23 season with 13 goal contributions, 2.2 key passes per game, and 2.3 dribbles completed per match
He didn't build on that a season later as Sassuolo completely fell apart and got relegated, but he was still an above average Serie A winger even on that team. With Sassuolo back in Serie A last season, Lauriente improved as the team did with a career high 16 goal contributions, becoming more efficient with less of the ball. He isn't better than Antonio Nusa, Omar Marmoush, Savinho, or Cody Gakpo, but he is a cheap, underrated alternative with more of a natural wing fit than Gakpo and more quality than trying to roll the dice on someone like Rafael Leao would have been.
