It's been a subdued opening to the summer transfer window for Tottenham, who have been linked with a few but seemingly aren't close to bolstering Thomas Frank's squad.

There's reason to be excited about Mathys Tel's permanent arrival, while Kevin Danso quickly blossomed into a fan favourite before the club triggered the obligation to purchase him outright. Moreover, Kota Takai has made waves in Japan and could develop into Spurs' next outstanding centre-half.

However, supporters are craving that one statement addition; a major dose of transfer dopamine. Four notable Premier League attackers are said to be on our radar, but the man most fans want, who they've been enamoured with for years, is Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze.

We know Spurs boast a long-standing interest, and this feels like the summer when Spurs could finally make their move. But, those folk from down the road are lurking.

Arsenal threatening to snatch top Tottenham transfer target from under their nose

An Arsenal move for Eze would send much of the fanbase into a state of revolt, and, unfortunately, it may well be on the cards. On Thursday, some UK bookmakers slashed his odds of joining the Gunners from 25/1 to 2/1. As they say, there's no smoke without fire.

Ben Jacobs is among those to report Arsenal's interest in the Palace playmaker, saying that they've added Eze to their list of winger targets for the summer. Real Madrid's Rodrygo is also on their radar and appears to be the priority, but Eze could be pivoted to if they fail to strike a deal with the Spanish behemoths.

In truth, I wouldn't like either of 'em ending up there, but a swoop for Eze would particularly sting given our interest. He's a player I'd love to see in N17, even if his profile isn't a pressing need.

Arsenal have already moved for a potential Spurs target in Christian Norgaard this summer, and their increased activity will only make the Lilywhite fanbase more angsty. If reports are to be believed, we shouldn't expect Thomas Frank to be handed a war-chest ahead of his first season at the helm, with shrewd budget business likely to dominate our plans.

There must be one arrival capable of keeping the fanbase on side, though, but I wouldn't exactly know where to turn if the worst-case scenario plays out and Eze ends up a Gooner.

Xavi Simons, perhaps?
