Throughout the 2025/26 Premier League season, especially when the losses have been piling up recently, transfer rumors have swirled around one of the biggest names on Tottenham Hotspur in young center back Micky van de Ven.

The 24 year old Dutch defender has cut an increasingly frustrated figure after some losses, including the particularly troublesome home defeats in which the bitter fan base has openly booed the team. Nevermind that their anger is directed at manager Thomas Frank, whom Van de Ven has actually already openly snubbed on multiple occasions. The players themselves can feel this heat and cannot help but act as though the vitriol is directed at them.

Like any elite footballer, Van de Ven has high expectations for himself and his team, and the latter are definitely not meeting any acceptable standard. Meanwhile, the very best clubs in the world like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and now even Liverpool in England are courting the former Wolfsburg man, using the transfer tea leaves to whisper about the possibilty of prying him from Tottenham.

Tottenham have made a Micky van de Ven decision

As Spurs sit closer to the relegation battle than their bold dreams of the top four before the first campaign under Thomas Frank, who is fully on the hot seat now, began, fans have to worry about the possibility of losing Micky van de Ven upon the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.

Fortunately for Tottenham Hotspur supporters, the Lilywhites are not going to throw in the towel on their supremely gifted and versatile speedster in defense so easily. According to a report from Sky Sports, Tottenham have no intention of selling Van de Ven this winter or summer or letting him otherwise leave. Their goal is to sit down with their star man and hammer out an improved contract with a raise.

Van de Ven has his current contract run out at the end of the 2028/29 season, so while it is a few years from when Tottenham actually have to be worried about being forced into selling the player, any club worth their salt knows that when there is a great young footballer who can be a center piece player of the team for many years on a contract with low wages, you have to shut down the contract speculation or transfer rumors by giving them a well earned raise.

Tottenham over the years have been one of the worst clubs at rewarding their players with those kinds of wage raises, and they have a prime opportunity to prove that without Daniel Levy, they are ready to keep their star men happy. Pay the man.
