As Tottenham Hotspur continue to lose games in the Premier League and fall closer and closer to the relegation zone again, fans have to be legitimately worried about the club losing some of its best young players - and maybe even their best overall players.
Antonin Kinsky is already in talks to join West Ham United on loan, while Mathys Tel is increasingly agitating for a 100 percent justifiable loan move away from the incompetence of the N17. Those would be two tough losses were Tottenham to ever lose them permanently, but there is an even bigger looming potential loss for Spurs.
Micky van de Ven is one of the best young center backs in world football and easily one of the most important players to Tottenham right now. There have been whispers of European football's most elite clubs, namely Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, being highly interested in the Dutchman as a solution to their defensive woes.
Tottenham are headed down a dark path
So far, Van de Ven has done little to dispel those transfer rumors, while he has been visibly more frustrated with how Spurs are doing. All the losing certainly does not help, and what compounds the frustration is how cowardly of a coach Thomas Frank is - and he has inexplicably retained his job.
Worse yet for Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid and Barcelona are not the only elite European clubs to watch out for. According to a new report from Matt Barlow of the Daily Mail, within the Premier League itself, Liverpool are now monitoring Micky van de Ven closely as a transfer target with Virgil van Dijk getting older, Ibrahima Konate's future uncertain, and Marc Guehi having just chosen title rivals Manchester City.
Just because a top team is interested, it does not necessarily mean that Van de Ven is doomed to being transferred out to Liverpool. But pray when, in the recent history of this pathetic club, have Tottenham ever successfully rebuffed a top club when they are interested in one of their star players? It has happened, but it has been quite rare. And Tottenham fans have to have even less than zero trust in the club now, as Johan Lange is somehow twice more incompetent than Daniel Levy.
Dark days could be ahead for Tottenham, and if Liverpool were to steal away Van de Ven and make him as successful of a Premier League icon as Van Dijk, which is not inconceivable, then it will be yet another low for the Lilywhites.
