It was always going to be Cuti.
Tottenham may have frustrated supporters with their rather slow summer transfer window, but it's nonetheless been a huge summer of change. Most notably, Ange Postecoglou, the man responsible for delivering our first piece of silverware in 17 years, has been replaced by a hipster Dane, with Thomas Frank the man to lead the club into an exciting new dawn.
There's also a seismic emotional void to fill following the departure of Son Heung-min after a decade of wonderful service. Replacing his efficiency in front of goal will surely prove an impossible task, but Frank did have to name a new captain after Son donned the armband during Ange's two years at the helm.

This was Frank's first major decision as Tottenham boss, and Cristian Romero was the obvious choice.
The Argentine stepped in for Son when he was absent during the back-end of last season, having been named a vice-captain by Frank's predecessor, and he produced a stellar captain's performance in the Europa League final.
James Maddison may well have been another contender, but the Englishman's long-term knee injury ruled him out.
While Romero's fitness issues and previous chaotic tendencies could frustrate, his status as one of the world's most dominant centre-backs when he's injury-free is undeniable. We're lucky to have him, and the club must aim to tie our new skipper down for the long haul after resisting Atletico Madrid's advances at the start of the summer.
"I think he [Romero] has all the right qualities," Frank said on the decision. "He leads from his behaviour on the pitch, driving the team forward in every way, and outside the pitch he’s always pushing the team."
The manager also confirmed that he'll name his leadership group following the conclusion of the transfer window.
Romero himself has expressed great pride, taking to Instagram on the morning of the UEFA Super Cup. "Today begins a new season for us, one that is truly special to me. Becoming the first captain of this beautiful club is an incredible honour," the skipper wrote.
The defender also sat down for an interview with the club's media team, and hearing him speak English was like hearing the mysterious antagonist talk for the first time. He could do it all along!
An introvert at heart, Romero isn't one for camera talk, but he's absolutely the right choice to succeed Sonny. This is a young Spurs team that will continue to endure bumps in the road, but the Argentine at the helm is a winner, and he's a character his teammates can lean on for salvation in times of strife.
El Capitan.
