Tottenham's transfer window so far has been pretty monotonous, but Wednesday was perhaps the day our summer burst into life.

First, our relentless social media scrolls finally manifested a Mohammed Kudus transfer bomba. Much to West Ham supporters' fury, the Ghanaian international looks set to join the club in a Β£55m deal on a six-year contract.

The 24-year-old is a mightily exciting addition who has the potential to blossom under the ultimate talent extractor in Thomas Frank. However, that wasn't the only piece of good news we received during the mid-point of the week.

Atletico Madrid no longer pursuing deal for Cristian Romero

Much has been made of Cristian Romero's future this summer, with the Argentine defender entering the final two years of his contract having flirted with the possibility of a departure earlier this year.

Atletico Madrid's interest has been well-documented, with Diego Simeone himself admitting just how much he'd like to have his compatriot marshalling an Atleti backline that has long paled in comparison to the formidable unit that helped them to La Liga glory more than a decade ago.

Romero and Atleti are a match made in heaven, and the Spaniards have made a push. However, if reports are to be believed, and this case I will believe them as it's good news, then we don't need to worry about Romero wreaking havoc at the Metropolitano any time soon.

According to Diario AS (via The Spurs Express on X), Atletico Madrid have "grown tired" in their pursuit of the Tottenham defender. They've been thwarted in their attempts to sign the World Cup winner and have reportedly "given up" their pursuit.

Some suggested that the La Liga giants, who are more than willing spenders, offered €55m for Romero, but Daniel Levy was holding out for at least €70m. A line from AS states that Spurs don't want to sell Romero at all.

It's a hugely promising update because Atletico Madrid was the only club I could see Romero leaving us for this summer. The defender has previously spoken of his "love" for this club, and his form in Europe down the stretch last season as we claimed Europa League glory thrust his Spurs legacy into a lofty realm.

He's seemingly willing to buy into another project in N17, and he's been spotted at Hotspur Way for the start of Thomas Frank's first pre-season at the helm. Convincing him to sign an extension is the next challenge.
