Young Tottenham Hotspur winger Mikey Moore has all the tools to become a star one day, but as Spurs fans are realizing this preseason, he needs a lot more work and refinement than many had thought. Moore has been given a few opportunities to shine against inferior opponents but has failed to take them, looking like a passenger in the Spurs first team.
Last season, Moore spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan to Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, bouncing back from a rough start to the season which led to many writing him off early. He eventually become one of the most important and respected members of the Rangers squad, scoring crucial goals against arch rivals Celtic on multiple occasions to prove his worth.
As Tottenham close in on agreeing to loan Moore to FC Koln, joining Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai as the latest top prospect to head to the Bundesliga on loan, there are doubts being expressed by Spurs fans regarding the true extent of Moore's quality and even his future upside to the club as a whole.
Don't give up on Mikey Moore yet
But Spurs supporters cannot do that. They should not anoint Mikey Moore as the next big thing already, but they also should not write off an 18 year old who still has not played a season in a top five European league as a regular starter. Moore flashed potential in the 2024/25 season for Spurs and played reasonably well for Rangers last season, but Koln will be Moore's first test as a regular in a top European league.
Until Moore gets that experience and takes his lumps, Tottenham Hotspur supporters can't sit there and call Moore a bust or say that he was overhyped. Maybe Spurs fans fell into the trap of boasting about a young player too soon and created false expectations, but that also does not mean believing in Moore is a mistake or that the player is a failure not being first team ready yet.
Players like Lamine Yamal have spoiled everyone else and created unrealistic expectations. Moore is only 18 years of age and was already good enough to be a key player for a strong European team in Rangers last season. He is on the right track. No, he is not ready to play meaningful minutes for a Premier League Big Six club in Tottenham, but most 18 year old players are not. Giving up on Moore is the worst thing a Spurs fan can do.
