Tottenham Hotspur star center midfielder Lucas Bergvall labored through a difficult 2025/26 season filled with injuries, incompetence around him, and some of the worst coaching the club has ever seen. And even when Roberto De Zerbi came in to right the ship, he left the out of form Bergvall on the bench, instead understandably opting for the veteran players to help save Spurs from relegation.

Despite coming off a bad season, everyone in European football knows that the young Bergvall is a special talent. And is the Spurs player most people are watching the closest at the 2026 World Cup this year, because he has a real chance to be an X-Factor for the Swedish national team this summer. He already made a nice impact in their blowout win over a very disorganized Tunisia side in the first matchup of the group stage.

All the while, clubs are still trying to poach away Bergvall from Tottenham, and the biggest club Spurs have to worry about is a London rival in Chelsea. The Blues love to sign rising young talents whom they think have a chance to become among the best in the world in their positions, and the 2024/25 Europa League champion absolutely fits the bill.

Tottenham can't lose Lucas Bergvall

Well, according to a report from noted Chelsea insider Simon Phillips, the Blues are indeed back in for Lucas Bergvall. Chelsea have reportedly made fresh checks on the 20 year old box to box center midfielder, putting Tottenham Hotspur on red alert.

There are a lot of other troublesome rumors about Bergvall. That he may want out after not playing much in the 2025/26 season. That Roberto De Zerbi does not value him and wants to go after more experienced players and may choose to discard Bergvall.

Tottenham fans are fearful of all this, especially if Chelsea submit an offer that tempts both Bergvall as a player and then Spurs as an organization because of the finances. Bergvall is someone who has given them a lot of hope even in dark times, and there is no Europa League title without some of the work he put in during that campaign before going down with an injury.

Spurs would be selling a very valuable player for the future at a price around his lowest point, and selling to a direct rival like Chelsea would be absolutely embarrassing. Tottenham fans can only hope the club take the right stance here.
