Tottenham are back in Premier League action on Saturday, facing Aston Villa in a battle between two teams with big ambitions who have started very poorly. Spurs' disappointing start continued with a Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Liverpool during the week.

Spurs remain winless and goalless in the league, and fans are growing concerned that this season will be more of the same despite a spending bill of more than £300million.

Villa had a turbulent summer, losing a number of key players, and they are also winless, picking up just one point so far, but they did win in the Carabao Cup during the week. Here we take a look at the injury news surrounding both teams ahead of this one.

Amadou Onana - Out

Onana is out for the season after suffering a serious knee injury over the summer.

Ian Maatsen - Out

Maatsen has picked up what looks to be a long-term ankle injury. Emery said last week: "But the information I have, an ankle injury, it may be a long, long time."

Leon Goretzka - Out

Goretzka did not respond well to jumping right into action after missing out on a proper pre-season. He has picked up a knee overload injury that will see him miss out until after the break.

Brian Madjo - Out

It was hoped Madjo could return from his ankle injury before the break, but it looks as though he won't return until after it.

Joao Gomes - Doubt

Gomes is understood to be a doubt due to a muscular issue. He will be assessed before the game.

Pau Torres - Out

Torres picked up a hamstring injury recently and will be out until after the break at least.

Marco Bizot - Doubt

Emery said during the week: "Marco felt pain in his back. We decided to change him, and hopefully it’s not a big injury."

Matty Cash - Doubt

Cash has a muscular issue and will be assessed ahead of the game.

Xavi Simons - Out

Simons is out until around February of next year after his ACL rupture last season.

Wilson Odobert - Out

Also a long-term absentee, Odobert will be hoping to get back from his own serious knee injury the right side of Christmas.

Myhailo Mudryk - Out

Mudryk is out until late October with an ankle issue he picked up quickly after his arrival from Chelsea. De Zerbi said last week: "Playing without tackle, without different movement, he felt pain in the ankle, and then after two days, he made the medical check. We already knew it could be difficult to come back [immediately] as a normal player."

Pedro Porro - Doubt

Porro missed out during the week with a muscular issue and will be assessed ahead of this one.

Sandro Tonali - Doubt

Tonali missed out during the week, and De Zerbi explained: "Playing without tackle, without different movement, he felt pain in the ankle, and then after two days, he made the medical check. We already knew it could be difficult to come back [immediately] as a normal player." It doesn't sound serious, and Tonali could well return here.

Dejan Kulusevski - Out

Kulusevski is being protected against any risk as he slowly builds up his fitness after more than a year out. De Zerbi said last week: "Kulusevski is not working with us in the last week. No big problem. The normal problem when one player is out of long time!"
