Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman, who Tottenham Hotspur have already scouted this season, is open to leaving Atalanta in January in search of a new challenge. That is according to Florian Plettenberg, who fans may remember from the Harry Kane saga in the summer of 2023.

The Nigerian international had reportedly tried to leave the club in the summer, but to no avail. He did not let a failed move disrupt his performances for Atalanta, however, with two goals and two assists in four Serie A games so far this season, as well as a brace for Nigeria In Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

The soon-to-be 27-year old announced himself on the world stage when he scored a hat-trick in the Europa League final to deny Bayer Leverkusen an unbeaten treble.

He was already doing well before that, however, and fans should not be mistaken into thinking this was a one off game. He scored three goals and provided an assist in six games at the Africa Cup of Nations in January, as well as scoring 11 goals and putting up seven assists in just 22 Serie A starts last season, with it all accumulating in a Ballon D’or nomination.

Despite being a Nigerian international, Lookman was born and raised in London and would count as a homegrown player. The winger has already played in the Premier League, for Everton, Fulham and Leicester City – though there is little doubt that he has developed greatly as a player since departing the Premier League in 2022.

It feels like this has been said about every winger target under the sun, but Lookman would give Spurs some much needed 1v1 ability, to go with his blistering pace, but with goals and assists on top of that. His contract is up in the summer of 2026, and as a result, Plettenburg reports that he could be available for around “25-30 million Euros”, which should not be an issue in theory.

For that sort of price, to bring in an experienced player, that still has his best years ahead of him, who can provide goals, assists, pace, and 1v1 ability, as well as being homegrown – most certainly worth looking into, at the very least.
