As per TBR Football, Spurs sent scouts to Bergamo on Thursday night for the Atalanta vs Arsenal clash, in order to watch Ademola Lookman and Ederson.

The publication suggests that Spurs are keeping a "close eye" on the Atalanta pair, ahead of the January transfer window, though Newcastle United and Liverpool also had scouts at the game, with Lookman having the priority focus of the two players from all three clubs, but with Ederson looked at by each side too.

Ederson is a combative midfielder, capable of holding down the midfield or playing in a box-to-box role, and has a lot of energy that would suit Spurs. His profile rose very quickly after an immense performance against Bayer Leverkusen in the 23/24 Europa League final in Dublin.

Of course, Lookman had the attention of a lot of people that night too, after his wonderful hat-trick condemned Leverkusen to their first and only defeat, 52 games into their 53-game season. The attacker is already fairly established, having played in the Premier League for Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City previously.

Despite being a full Nigerian international, Lookman was born and raised in England, joining Charlton Athletic at a young age (and thus being homegrown eligible), before getting his big move to Everton at a young age, scoring against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on his Premier League debut.

His career didn't settle for a while after that, with a permanent move to RB Leipzig not working out and having loans at Fulham and Leicester, but has seemed to find a home in Bergamo, providing 17 goals and 10 assists in all competitions last time out.

Ederson joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022, after six months at the Serie A side Salernitana having joined from Brazilian football. He made his debut for Brazil in June and was part of their final Copa America squad.

The report says Lookman is valued at £51m by his club, and Ederson £50m. Whilst Lookman is right now probably the better player, certainly more high profile, and has the homegrown factor, Ederson's profile is perhaps a greater need, giving the likes of Yves Bissouma freedom to get further forward. That said, Lookman does give Spurs that 1v1 threat that they have long since cried out for. Let's see.
