Spurs make priority for the winter transfer window

Even the most optimistic of Tottenham Hotspur fans would tell you that the club need reinforcements in January. The first team squad is incredibly stretched right now, in a similar way to last season, and it is clear that Ange’s side need bodies through the door.
Spurs have priority for the upcoming winter transfer window
It has been reported that Spurs could look for a player that could cover both the left back and central defensive positions. Ideally, you could get both, but we know who we are working with here, so beggars can’t be choosers, unfortunately.
However, the priority for Spurs is reported to be a forward – per Dan Kilpatrick of the Standard. In his latest column, he suggested that, in spite of the impending arrival of Yang Min-hyeok, the Spurs still see signing another forward as a priority.
To elaborate, Kilpatrick said: “Richarlison has struggled to stay fit, while Wilson Odobert’s first season at Spurs has been disrupted by a major hamstring injury. Neither are expected back until well into the new year.
In time, Mikey Moore – who is still recovering from a virus – is expected to develop into a top player but relying on him this season may be premature. Another forward is, therefore, a priority for January, even with 18-year-old Min-hyeok Yang set to join from Gangwon FC.”
It is hard to gauge what type of forward the club may go for. How do you sell to a striker that they will have to make do with being the understudy for Dominic Solanke? Someone who can play across the front line would be great, but they are not easy to find, particularly not in January.
Spurs have been linked with quite a few forwards since the start of the season, with English Borussia Dortmund left winger Jamie Gittens one of the more exciting names that have been mentioned. They have also been linked to Matheus Cunha from Wolves, who would add depth up front, as a number ten, or off the left hand side.
Still, with the way the club works, and the January transfer window often being a difficult one to sign (top) players in, any excitement should probably be put on hold, at least for the time being. We have seen some top players signed in January in the past, however, namely Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur in recent years.
