Spurs loan watch: Disappointing stalemate in League Two

Down in League Two, George Abbott and his Notts County side were looking to bounce back from their very frustrating 2-0 defeat away to Crewe Alexandra in the six pointer of the weekend last time out, as they welcomed Welsh side Newport County to Meadow Lane for match day seventeen of the current League Two season.
As tends to be the case, Abbott partnered the skipper Matt Palmer in a midfield two, as manager Stuart Maynard went with his tried and trusted 343 set up for this game.
Youngsters side forced to settle for a point in home game
Although Notts had dominated the first half, having 12 shots to their visitors four, they were unable to find a breakthrough. In the second half, they had even more territory, and put up 15 shots to Newport’s three, making it 27 shots to seven in total, but yet were still unable to get that elusive goal, despite the return of star striker Alassana Jatta from international duty, and had to settle for a share of the spoils, making it two points from their previous three games.
In terms of Abbott himself, he still managed to have a good game, despite the frustrating result. The teenage midfielder recorded; 66 touches, three chances created, 2/2 accurate long balls, one shot on target, one shot off target, one shot blocked, 6/12 ground duels won, three fouls drawn, one interception, and three tackles.
In fairness, whilst this is still a pretty annoying result, Notts still find themselves in a healthy league position. The Magpies sit fourth in the league, with 28 points from their 17 games so far 0 though a few of the teams below them do have a game in hand, owing to the international breaks and quite a few games being postponed due to the weather this weekend.
Still, you could argue that you would rather have points on the board than games in hand. As of right now, Abbott’s side sit just one point below Doncaster in the final automatic promotion spot, with better goal difference – and the same number of games played.
Next up for the Spurs youngster and his Notts side is an FA Cup game, as they make the trip to face League One side Peterborough United away from home, where they will compete for a place in the third round, and an opportunity to play one of the big hitters.
