Tottenham fans have been awaiting news on Guglielmo Vicario, and it seems the Italian goalkeeper is edging closer to a return.

With the Spurs still dealing with injuries and squad depth concerns, his comeback could not be more timely.

However, while his return is positive news, it comes with an unexpected twist.

Tottenham’s goalkeeping situation has evolved in his absence, and Vicario may now find himself in an unfamiliar position – having to fight for his place.

With his potential return on the horizon, questions remain over whether he will immediately reclaim his starting spot or if his recent absence has opened the door for fresh competition.

According to reliable Spurs insider Paul O’Keefe, Vicario is 'very close' to making his comeback.

The Italian shot-stopper has already resumed first-team training at Hotspur Way, and there were even suggestions that he might feature in the recent 2-0 Premier League victory over Brentford.

However, former Tottenham scout Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, has indicated that Vicario will likely need to feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly before being considered for selection.

King stated, "I can’t see him coming straight back in without playing a couple of games. Therefore, I’d think that Spurs have arranged in the last week or so a game or two for Vicario to play in, to see how he is."

Spurs fans are eager to see Vicario back in action, but the club is keen to ensure he is fully prepared before throwing him back into the mix.

While his fitness remains a key concern, another pressing issue is whether he will automatically reclaim his starting role.

A battle for the no.1 spot

One of the biggest talking points surrounding Vicario’s return is the emergence of Antonin Kinsky.

The 21-year-old has made an impressive start to life in North London, leading to speculation that Tottenham have already held discussions with Vicario about his future.

Reports suggest that the Italian is less than pleased with this development, and there are murmurs of a potential summer exit if he fails to regain his position.

With competition heating up, Vicario will need to prove his quality once again and remind manager Ange Postecoglou why he was originally signed as Tottenham’s number one.

While Spurs continue their push for a top-four finish, the goalkeeping situation is set to be one of the most intriguing storylines to follow in the coming weeks.
