When speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Tony Cascarino has stated that the on ball quality of Tottenham Hotspur right-back is comparable to that of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold's quality.

The 62-year old former footballer said: "Porro is so good on the ball, I mentioned it [before], Trent is probably number one, but he isn’t far behind, Porro, honestly. Technically, watching him it’s like ‘wow, how much skill has he got?’. In dangerous situations, it might come with a price to pay [defensively]."

The reputation of Porro, compared to when he first came to England is seriously night and day. Fans will remember Tim Sherwood's rant about the defender during his debut against Leicester City in February 2023, when Harvey Barnes gave him a pretty torrid time.

Even then, the comments made felt pretty harsh about a player making their debut in an absolutely terrible all round performance. After a tough first couple of months, Porro has gone from strength to strength in N17, and, unfortunately for Spurs, it has not gone unnoticed.

Both Real Madrid and Manchester City have been credited with an interest in the 25-year old recently, with Spurs reportedly ready to tie him down to a long term contract in order to combat this interest in his services. His current deal runs until 2028, but before you know it 18 months will have passed and he will be into his final two years. You can never have someone of that quality on too long of a deal.

His recent international performances will have done his rep absolutely no harm within the wider footballing world either, with superb displays for Spain over the past international break - having previously not made either of their two squads before that, including for the European Championships.

Certainly some high praise from Cascarino, but it is hard to argue. Other than Alexander-Arnold, it is harder to think of a right-back, certainly in the Premier League, with more on ball quality than Porro.

Fortunately for Spurs, it is Alexander-Arnold himself that Real Madrid seem to be making their priority target, with Porro listed as one of the alternative targets should they fail to sign him, with the likes of Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen, and Juanlu of Sevila.

As for Manchester City, The interest checks out, given Kyle Walker's age and declining performances. However, Porro may be put off by the idea of playing for them, with City previously letting him leave without giving him a single appearance.
