‘We have a brilliant coach’ - Tottenham player defends coach Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham Hotspur’s goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has stepped up to defend manager Ange Postecoglou following a challenging period for the club.
The North London Derby loss to Arsenal has intensified scrutiny on Postecoglou’s tactics and team performance, but Vicario remains a steadfast supporter of the coach, insisting that positive results are just around the corner.
The defeat to Arsenal, which saw Spurs lose 1-0 due to a goal from Gabriel Magalhães off a corner kick, has been a bitter pill for Tottenham fans. The match mirrored recent trends where Tottenham has dominated possession but struggled to find the net. This recurring issue has led to growing concerns among supporters about the effectiveness of Postecoglou’s approach.
Vicario, however, has issued a robust defence of both Postecoglou and the team’s performance. He acknowledges the disappointment felt by the players and the fans but stresses that football often doesn’t reflect the true effort put in on the pitch. He maintains that sticking to their current approach will eventually pay off, as long as the team remains united and focused.

In an interview with Spurs Play, Vicario expressed his belief that their current footballing philosophy is sound and that results will follow if the team continues to perform at the same level. “It hurts a lot,” Vicario said about the derby loss:
"This game is special for our crowd and we know this. Now we have to take the pain and disappointment, but football gives you every time another opportunity."
"We have a brilliant coach, brilliant staff that can help us so we just need to stay together and believe in our football because we played such good games until now."
He pointed out that while Tottenham haven’t seen the results they’re after, the quality of their play is clear. Vicario backed Postecoglou’s tactics, saying the coach and his team have what it takes to turn things around. He’s confident in their football and believes they just need to keep their heads up and stick with their approach.
The Italian goalkeeper also recognised Arsenal’s strength, pointing out that while Spurs’ approach was commendable, they struggled to finish their chances. Despite the setback, Vicario remains optimistic about future success, insisting that if the team sticks together and keeps their focus, victories will come.
