The ever-reliable Paul O Keefe has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur winger Wilson Odobert could be out for six weeks or more, after the hamstring injury he picked up in the Carabao Cup game against Coventry City last month.

With the incredible form of Dejan Kulusevski in central areas, Spurs are now beginning to really lack depth on the right wing. Brennan Johnson has started the last three games, as well as playing most of the game against Coventry due to the aforementioned injury, and could be at risk of burnout soon.

Whilst the Welshman is in good form, you need to manage his minutes like any other player and there is very little alternative at the moment, and a start against Ferencvaros in the Europa League is not optimal at the moment. He will no doubt start both games for Wales over the international break too, with a trip to Iceland among the schedule.

An even bigger shame for Odobert is that he is to miss crucial 2025 Euro qualifying games for France U21s, who face Cyprus, and a six-pointer with Austria over the October international break. Les Blues are currently second in the group, three points behind Slovenia with a game in hand. Only the first-place team will qualify for the tournament.

It is a real shame for Spurs and for Odobert, who would have seen the Europa League group phase as a great opportunity to get some minutes, whether it have been on the right or left side. By the time he is back, Spurs will be playing some of their tougher ‘league phase’ games, and the Frenchman may find minutes a bit harder to come by.

If Odobert had been fit for the tie with Qarabag, Heung Min-Son may well not have started, and subsequently not got injured. Although if the captain is back for Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend, that hasn’t been some terrible thing after all.
