Tottenham to recall loanee in January, says insider
Tottenham Hotspur may recall George Abbott from his loan at Notts County in January, according to club insider John Wenham.
Abbott, who has been turning heads with his impressive performances in League Two, is seen as a player with significant potential, and Spurs could look to move him up a level to further his development.
Wenham, a respected figure within the Spurs community and host of the Lilywhite Rose podcast, described Abbott as a "special" player who has already made a notable impact during his short time at Notts County.
The 19-year-old, capable of playing both as a defensive midfielder and in defence, has started three of his four appearances for the club, demonstrating his versatility and maturity well beyond his years.
Wenham praised Abbott’s leadership and adaptability, suggesting that if his current trajectory continues, Spurs will need to reassess his loan situation come January.
"I’m really pleased with Abbott’s performances at Notts County. He’s a special player who can play multiple positions, and at just 19, he’s already excelling. If he continues to shine at this level, we’ll need to re-evaluate and potentially move him up a division."

Abbott's rise through the ranks at Tottenham has been steady and impressive. He joined the club's academy at the age of seven, progressing through the youth levels before making his senior debut in May 2023 during a 4-1 Premier League win over Leeds United.
His leadership qualities were also on display last season, when he captained Tottenham’s U21 side to the Premier League 2 title. His efforts were rewarded with a contract extension, keeping him at Spurs until 2027.
The decision to send Abbott on loan to Notts County was seen as an opportunity for him to gain valuable first-team experience. However, given his performances so far, Tottenham may decide that a step up to a higher division could better suit his development in the second half of the season.
With the club always keen to nurture young talent, Abbott’s future at Spurs looks bright.
