Speaking to media outlet ESPN Argentina, Cristian Romero was asked about the possibility of leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

Romero said: "I respect Tottenham a lot. They always gave me a lot of affection, so I like to play here. I don't think about other clubs.

Let's hope that this year we can win a title in Tottenham" the Argentine defender added.

Romero's commitment to the cause will please Spurs fans, who do not need any telling on how good a player they have on their hands with Romero. Spurs fans have been telling other fans for a long time how good Cuti is - and it appears people are finally waking up.

However, fans will take note of Romero stressing the importance of winning a trophy at Spurs. Having got a huge taste for winning silverware, he will not be wanting to go without silverware every year at Spurs - and will be wanting the club to match his own ambition.

Spurs' number 17 was briefly linked to Real Madrid back in early June but went quiet very quickly. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has asked for a new central defender, but it appears he has been told to make do with what he has - giving Spurs fans plenty of comfort.

Aside from Heung Min-Son, Romero does feel like the only Spurs player who wouldn't look out of place at any team in the world. The likes of Micky Van De Ven could easily have that status in a year or two's time as they continue to develop, but Romero and Son could go and get regular games at the likes of Man City and, ironically, Real Madrid immediately.

When you have players of that calibre, it is important you don't let that opportunity slip. Spurs have managed to, somehow, do that with Heung-Min Son and will be hoping the same will happen long-term with Romero.

This interview with ESPN Argentina is certainly an encouraging step towaeds doing just that.
