Tottenham striker receives first international call-up in seven years

Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke has been rewarded for his recent run of form, which has seen him score in all three of Spurs' previous outings, with a call-up to the England national team for Nations League fixtures with Greece and Finland next week.
It is his first England call-up for seven years, where he made his debut as a substitute against Brazil in a friendly at Wembley. This is the first time he has been selected in the initial squad, too, having been drafted in to replace the injured Harry Kane for his first call-up.
This time, he will be in the squad alongside Kane, as well as Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. As a result of those two being in the squad, a start over the break would be quite an ask for Solanke, but even some minutes would be a reward for his hard work and good form in a Spurs shirt.

Unfortunately, he will not be joined by teammate James Maddison, who was left out of Lee Carsley's second squad in interim charge, instead opting for Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham Forest.
In the mid to late 2010s, half of the England lineup was filled with Spurs players, so it is good to see the first representative since Maddison was in the squad for the March friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
A fully deserved call-up for the Spurs striker, who was also eligible to represent Nigeria. It really feels like he is getting settled in at Spurs. Not just his goals in recent weeks, but his pressing and link-up feels really good too. His hold-up and pass in the build-up for Kulusevski's goal against Manchester United was absolutely superb and has perhaps gone a bit under the radar.
Let's hope Solanke can make it the perfect week with a goal or two and a win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
