Tottenham skipper becomes club second all-time assister in Premier League
By Tom Vinall
On Saturday afternoon against Brentford, Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung Min-Son registered two assists in a very complete all-round performance, where he appeared to be playing less wide than he has been of late.
Firstly Son played the ball wide to Brennan Johnson who fired across goal, and then late on, in a more creative way, played a perfectly weighted through ball for James Maddison who expertly chipped the ball into the back of the net for three goals and three points.
With those two assists, Son overtook Christian Eriksen outright for the second most assists for the club in Premier League history - with the South Korean now having 63 assists, whilst Eriksen has 62.
Darren Anderton is currently out in first, with 67 Premier League assists for Spurs, but Son will have that record himself sooner rather than later. It would come as a surprise if he doesn't overtake that at some point over the course of this season, injuries permitted.
Son becomes club second all-time assister in the Premier League
Those were Son's first two assists of the Premier League season, though he can feel aggrieved having created four big chances so far. In fact, over his Premier League career so far, the 32-year-old has created 87 big chances, so can feel pretty hard done by that the record is not his already.
There are other milestones that the Spurs captain is closing in on too. With 414 appearances for the club, Son is just 24 appearances away from surpassing Jimmy Dimmock into the club's top 10 all-time appearance makers.
With 164 goals in Lilywhite, Son is currently 5th on the clubs all time scorer list. If he was to score eleven more goals, he would overtake Martin Chivers into 4th. Both of these feats feel like they can be realistically achieved this season, again with injuries permitted.
Finally, in terms of Premier League goals, Son currently sits 22nd on the all-time list. Should he score just six goals in the league this season, he could overtake; Raheem Sterling, Dwight Yorke, Nicolas Anelka, Robbie Keane, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and move up to 16th on the list. After Harry Kane, he is only the second Spurs player to score over 100 Premier League goals for the club.
