Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr impressed for Senegal in their 1-0 victory over Mauritania.

Sarr played the entire game and assisted the only goal of the game 27 minutes in, teeing up Habib Diallo of Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab.

The Spurs midfielder also played 90 minutes in his side’s 1-1 draw vs DR Congo, after being withdrawn in the final few moments of the game.

The victory over Maurinatia was a vital one for Sarr and Senegal, with Sudan and the aforementioned DR Congo firmly breathing down their necks in their World Cup qualifying group.

Only two of the six sides will progress to the next round of qualifying, and Senegal currently sit one point ahead of DR Congo who sit in third place.

Sarr impressed on numerous occasions, in what felt like his debut season at the club. Per SofaScore, the Senegalese midfielder started 27 league games and featured in a further 7.

Unwanted by Antonio Conte, Ange made sure that Sarr went straight into his team and he played in every single game he was available for.

Considering that he was initially signed three years ago, before spending a year back on a loan at Metz, you would be forgiven for forgetting that Sarr is still only 21.

Sarr was just 20 years old when he became a champion of Africa, as his Senegal side triumphed in the 2022 edition of the Africa Cup Of Nations.

2022 turned out to be an extremely fruitful year for the Spurs midfielder. After winning the AFCON, he made his debut for Spurs later in the year and capped his 2022 off by being awarded the CAF Young Footballer of the Year award, an award previously won by the likes of Victor Osimhen and Achraf Hakimi (Wikipedia).
