Argentine journalist Uriel Lugt has taken to social media platform X to reveal that Tottenham Hotspur are eager to send Alejo Veliz on loan to a fellow Premier League side next season.

This move comes after Veliz's rather underwhelming loan spell at Sevilla, where the 20-year-old managed to play just 29 minutes across six appearances. Not exactly the kind of development experience Spurs were hoping for.

Despite some interest from his homeland, with clubs like River Plate and Racing reportedly inquiring about his services, Tottenham has ruled out a return to Argentina. Instead, they’re aiming for Veliz to get some solid Premier League experience under his belt. There’s also some interest from Italian clubs, but the preference is clear: keep him in England.

Before his short-lived stint in Spain, Veliz made ten appearances for Tottenham across all competitions last season. He even scored his first Premier League goal in a 4-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on New Year’s Eve. While those are promising signs, the main goal is to ensure he gets consistent game time in a competitive environment.

Tottenham’s track record with loaning players to Spain hasn’t been stellar. Take Bryan Gil, for instance. Despite shining during his loan spells at Sevilla and Valencia, his performances didn’t translate well when he returned to the Premier League. Giovani Lo Celso is another example. He lit up LaLiga but struggled to make a similar impact back at Spurs.

The physicality of the English game is a huge factor. Players like Gil might have benefited more from loans to Premier League clubs where they could play week in, week out, and adapt to the league's demanding physical nature. It’s a different beast compared to La Liga.

This time around, Spurs are hoping to avoid the same mistakes. Ideally, Veliz would be loaned out to a club like Southampton, where he could secure regular game time. Such a move would not only help him develop but also prepare him for the physical and tactical demands of the Premier League.

The aim is for Veliz to return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a year, ready to compete for a spot in the starting eleven. As Spurs look to the future, it’s crucial to develop young talent in a way that sets them up for success in the Premier League. By carefully choosing loan destinations, they can ensure players like Veliz gain the right kind of experience to thrive in English football.

So, while the journey might have had a rocky start, there’s hope that Veliz’s next loan spell will be a more fruitful one, paving the way for a bright future at Tottenham.
