Tottenham Hotspur's transfer dealings may have quieted down with the close of the English transfer window, but the club's young talents are still attracting interest from abroad. One of Tottenham's brightest prospects, Alfie Devine, is reportedly close to securing a loan move to Belgian club Westerlo.

This summer has been a whirlwind for Spurs, with 15 players departing the club through various means, including contract expirations, permanent transfers, and loans. Tottenham’s approach has been all about making the most of the loan market, giving up-and-coming talents like Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz, and Dane Scarlett a chance to hone their skills and gain real experience in tough matches.

Alfie Devine, a highly regarded midfielder within Tottenham's ranks, is the latest to be linked with a temporary move. According to Spurs insider Paul O Keefe, Westerlo is leading the race to sign the 20-year-old on loan, with negotiations ongoing. If the move materializes, Devine would join up with another Tottenham loanee, Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic, who is spending the season at Westerlo ahead of his anticipated arrival in North London next summer.

Devine’s career has been steadily progressing since he made headlines as Tottenham's youngest-ever goalscorer in an FA Cup match back in 2021. Last season, the midfielder gained valuable experience on loan at Port Vale in League One before moving to Plymouth Argyle in the Championship for the second half of the campaign. His performances have caught the eye of several clubs, with Blackburn Rovers, Swansea, and even European sides like Parma expressing interest in taking him on loan this summer.

On one hand, playing in the Belgian Pro League would provide Devine with the chance to play regular first-team football, something that is crucial for his development. Additionally, the presence of Vuskovic could help him settle into the team quickly, potentially forming a strong partnership on the pitch.

However, there are questions about whether the Belgian league is the right level for Devine at this stage in his career. While it would offer him consistent game time, some might argue that the level of competition in Belgium is not as high as in the Championship or other European leagues where he could continue to develop.
