Tottenham on the verge of losing key member of coaching staff
Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Chris Davies is in advanced discussions to become the new manager of Birmingham City, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Davies joined Ange Postecoglou’s coaching staff at Spurs in June, where he has been instrumental in implementing Postecoglou's high-risk attacking football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His impact at Tottenham has been noteworthy, contributing to the team's dynamic style of play this season.
The managerial position at Birmingham City became available after Swansea City boss Michael Duff was sacked following a series of poor results last season. Davies, who previously came close to returning to Swansea during the summer, has now emerged as the leading candidate for the Birmingham job. His experience and tactical acumen make him an attractive choice for the club, which is seeking stability and a fresh approach after relegation to League One.
Birmingham City is looking for a new manager to succeed Tony Mowbray and Gary Rowett, aiming to rebuild and make a strong comeback in the Championship. The club's management sees Davies as the ideal candidate to lead this resurgence, given his proven track record and his role in Tottenham's successful transition under Postecoglou.

Tottenham on the verge of losing key member of coaching staff
Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has expressed his support for Davies’ potential move, emphasizing his commitment to staff development. In an interview with the Evening Standard in December, Postecoglou stated, “I’ve always been relaxed. I have said in the past it is part of my role to develop staff and I am really proud of the fact a lot of the guys I’ve worked with, the reason they are not with me as assistants is because they are senior managers in their own right.”
Postecoglou further explained his perspective on dealing with changes and disruptions: “If you are looking for things that will be disruptive, you can use that as a clutch or an excuse for anything. We lost Harry Kane the day before the season started so there is a disruption, we lost half the squad after one game so there is a disruption. There will always be this. You can’t work in a vacuum where everything is perfect and for me I have been relaxed in these kinds of situations because I have always believed the environment will cover whatever challenges we have if we get it right.”
O’Rourke shared the news on social media platform X, stating, “Tottenham assistant manager Chris Davies is in advanced talks to become Birmingham City’s new manager.” This development has generated significant interest, as fans and pundits alike anticipate the potential impact of Davies’ appointment on Birmingham's future.
