Tottenham eyes Girona star, but there's a snag
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on Girona star Viktor Tsygankov, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League could hinder their chances of signing the winger, according to AS.
Tsygankov’s impressive performances in La Liga during the 2023-24 season have caught the attention of several clubs across Europe. The Ukrainian winger, who scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 30 league matches, is now being tipped for a move to a bigger club this summer.
AS reports that Tottenham are among the clubs monitoring Tsygankov, with the attacker said to be on the North London club’s transfer ‘agenda’. However, Tottenham’s inability to offer Champions League football might deter the winger from moving to North London, especially since Girona has qualified for Europe’s premier club competition.
In addition to Tottenham, Arsenal and AC Milan are also credited with an interest in Tsygankov, with both clubs reportedly making inquiries about his availability. These clubs could pose significant competition for Tottenham, as they can offer the Champions League football that Tsygankov desires.
The report suggests that the winger might hesitate to move to Spurs due to their lack of Champions League action, particularly since Girona has secured a spot in the competition. Despite this, a move to Tottenham would still represent a step up for Tsygankov and could be tempting for the winger.

The LaLiga side are keen to keep hold of the 26-year-old but have so far failed to agree on a new deal with the player and remove the €30m (£25.5m) release clause in his current contract. Tottenham’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season means they will play Europa League football next season.
Even though Spurs cannot offer Champions League football to Tsygankov, a move from Girona to Tottenham is still a step up and would be tempting for the winger. However, Postecoglou’s men may struggle to land the 26-year-old if other Champions League clubs like Arsenal also enter the race.
Postecoglou wants players who are dedicated to the Spurs cause rather than those who want to play in particular competitions, so maybe Tsygankov simply is not the right fit of character that the Australian manager wants within his dressing room.
Do you think Tottenham can secure Tsygankov despite not having Champions League football?
