Tottenham midfielder to leave amid squad overhaul, eyes Premier League move
- Spurs has informed one of their midfielders that he can seek a new club this summer
- The North London club aims to revamp their midfield as part of their squad overhaul
Football Insider reports that Tottenham Hotspur have informed Giovani Lo Celso that he can seek a new club this summer, as the North London outfit aims to revamp their midfield.
Tottenham are willing to accept a cut-price fee for the Argentine, with the 28-year-old having played a peripheral role under Ange Postecoglou last season. According to the report, Lo Celso is expected to depart Spurs in the coming weeks and could fetch around £15m in the current transfer market.
Lo Celso, unhappy with his limited game time at Tottenham, is open to a move. The club, too, seems ready to offload him after a somewhat underwhelming five-year spell. Despite featuring in 22 Premier League matches last season, his total minutes on the pitch barely reached 500 (Transfermarkt).
One potential destination for Lo Celso is Aston Villa, with The Sun reporting that the Midlands club is interested in securing his services. Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, previously worked with the Argentine during a successful loan spell at Villarreal, and it appears Emery is keen on a reunion.

Lo Celso should have moved on from Tottenham years ago. The main reason he stayed was due to his long contract and good wages, which led to loan spells and a season spent largely on the bench.
Although Spurs may be reluctant to sell to a Premier League rival, a move to Aston Villa seems ideal for both the player and the club. Lo Celso has the potential to thrive under Emery’s management and could become a key player for Villa.
With just a year left on his current contract, this summer is Tottenham’s last realistic opportunity to secure a decent transfer fee for Lo Celso. Moving him on now allows Spurs to not only recoup some funds but also make room for new talent in their midfield.
Do you think Giovani Lo Celso will find success at Aston Villa if he makes the move this summer?
