Tottenham lose final pre-season friendly
By Tom Vinall
Tottenham fell to a 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in an entertaining affair, or at least the first half, in North London.
New signing Dominic Solanke, who was announced earlier in the day, was at the game, and was presented to the fans before kick-off.
Former Spurs stalwarts Eric Dier and Harry Kane were both gifted commemorative awards pre-match for their service to Spurs over the years.
Spurs starting line-up was; Vicario, Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Spence; Sarr, Bissouma; Johnson, Maddison, Son; Kulusevski.
The good vibes all around pre-game continued after Dejan Kulusevski gave the Spurs the lead from close range within the first minute.
It was downhill from there, however - Bayern started to create chances and were rewarded for their perseverance as Dayot Upamecano tapped home a rebound after Mathys Tel's header was saved, with Spurs once again showing their set-piece frailties.
After 25 minutes, Kulusevski nearly made it two for him and for Spurs but dragged his finish just wide of the far post after a clever run in behind.
Three minutes later, Radu Dragusin made a goal-saving intervention to stop Thomas Muller tapping home from a low cross.
But it was to be 2-1 just mere minutes later, as Spurs were caught playing out from the back and Bayern won the ball back in the Spurs penalty area, and Serge Gnabry converted to make it 3-1.
Just before the interval, Dragusin caught Mathys Tel just outside the box with a late challenge. From the resulting free-kick, Raphael Guerreiro found Thomas Muller at the far post and this time he was not to be denied as his diving header found the back of the net.
Tottenham lose final pre-season friendly
Spurs are going into the new season with the exact same issues as they had last season. There are general defensive problems, but especially from set-pieces and they will continue to be Tottenham's Achilles heel, capping their progress unless they sort things out as soon as possible.
At half-time, Ange introduced Bergvall, Werner, Bentancur, Udogie, Skipp, Romero, Gray, and Van De Ven, as Johnson, Spence, Maddison, Porro, Davies, Dragusin, Sarr and Bissouma made way.
It was a better second half, more rigid, and less entertaining, but perhaps what Spurs need with their issues. Spurs gave up much less defensively and created less going forward.
Kulusevski scored his and Tottenham's second of the game after being found by compatriot Bergvall, who continues to excite the Spurs fans.
The game largely petered out from there, as Kulusevski was deprived of a chance at a hat trick after being withdrawn for Mikey Moore, whose first professional contract will become official on Sunday, his 17th birthday. Lankshear, who is expected to head out on loan, replaced Son.
The most notable moment of the last 30 minutes is when Harry Kane was introduced with around 10 minutes to go, to applause from all corners of the stadium. It was a heartwarming moment when him and his former partner in crime Heung Min-Son shared a moment with a big hug.
That was Spurs' final friendly of pre-season. The next time Spurs take to the field will be against Leicester City at the King Power stadium on Monday the 19th.
