Tottenham Hotspur's search for a new right-back has taken a significant step forward with reports indicating that the club has initiated talks with AS Monaco for Brazilian full-back Vanderson.

This move follows Emerson Royal's recent transfer to AC Milan, which has left Spurs in need of a new defensive option on the right flank.

According to UOL Esporte journalist Bruno Andrade, Tottenham have engaged in discussions with Monaco regarding a deal for Vanderson, who has garnered attention as one of Ligue 1’s standout attacking full-backs.

Since joining Monaco three years ago, Vanderson has impressed with his dynamic performances and offensive contributions, making him an attractive prospect for Premier League clubs.

The initial reports suggest that Tottenham are preparing to make an offer in the region of €40 million (£34.2 million) for Vanderson. This move wouldn’t just fill a big gap for Spurs; it’d also be a major investment in boosting their defense.

Vanderson’s arrival could have implications for Tottenham’s current squad configuration. With the departure of Emerson Royal, manager Ange Postecoglou appears to be focusing on strengthening the right-back position.

Earlier this summer, there were indications that Vanderson was on Tottenham’s radar, showing that the club’s been interested in the Brazilian for a while.

The timing of this potential move suggests that Postecoglou is confident in the existing depth at left-back, with players like Ben Davies, Djed Spence, and Micky van de Ven providing adequate cover for Destiny Udogie.

Therefore, the priority seems to be securing a reliable understudy for Pedro Porro at right-back.

If Vanderson joins Tottenham, it will also clarify the role of young midfielder Archie Gray. Reports suggest that Postecoglou plans to utilize Gray exclusively as a midfielder rather than considering him for a defensive role.

With an expected offer approaching €40 million, Spurs are positioning themselves to secure a key player who could play a vital role in their defensive lineup for the upcoming season.
