The ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano has said on his Twitter account that Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a deal for AFC Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

He said that Solanke is "among Spurs' targets" although it will be a "difficult deal" due to his importance to Bournemouth.

Finally, Fabrizio said that Spurs are "exploring options" for a new striker and potentially a winger if the opportunity arises.

Spurs fans can take heart from the implication that Spurs will be looking at multiple options to be the club's new striker.

As mentioned above, any transaction for Solanke will be tough, but if Richarlison moves to Saudi Arabia, Spurs may have the finances to bring the Bournemouth striker in.

Solanke, who turns 27, scored 19 Premier League goals last season, at a rate of a goal every 175 minutes.

This tally put him level on goals with Ollie Watkins - who you would wager would have garnered a much more positive fanbase reaction had it been the Aston Villa forward who was linked to Spurs instead of Solanke.

The striker has three years on his current Bournemouth contract, so the South Coast club have no immediate necessity to sell their star man.

Solanke's solitary England appearance came all the way back in 2017, though there were several shouts from England fans for him to be called up at numerous points last season, owing to his excellent form for Bournemouth.

He is also eligible to represent Nigeria through his father.

Whilst Solanke did have an excellent season last time out, doubts have been cast over his ability to reproduce such form. It was the first time the striker had scored more than six Premier League goals in a single season

As always, context is important, however. This past season was only Solanke's second top-flight season over the age of 22 and his career development so far has been linear in the most part.

Also, the fact that Solanke is a homegrown player can only be a tick in the box in favor of signing the Bournemouth number 9.
